Tandur is a town in the Vikarabad District of the Indian State of Telangana. It is a municipality and the headquarters of Tandur mandal in Tandur revenue division.

The jurisdiction of civic body is spread over 25.5 sq. km . It is classified as a second grade municipality with 31 municipal wards. Drinking Water Is Supplied From The River kagna Which is 4 km away From The City.

According to 2011 Indian census Tandur had a population of 1,18,776 - with males 59,384 and 59,392 females. The literacy rate of Tandur city is 75.91%, which is higher than the state average of 67.02%. In Tandur, male literacy is around 81.96% whilst the female literacy rate is 69.88%.Tandur is rapidly developing city, and is the biggest city in the Vikarabad district.

Tandur average elevation of 450m (1,480 ft). And it is 110 Km from Hyderabad, which is capital city of Telangana State. Connected towns to the Tandur is Vikarabad 40Km which is currently declared as District. Zaheerabad 60Km, Sangareddy 95Km via Roads and Trains.

History of Tandur: 

Tandur has a history during Pre-Nizams. Nizams from Hyderabad used to visit tandur for Hunting. Their was a business man Yusuf Seth was arranging grand welcome to the rulers i.e., Nizams of Hyderabad. The rich vegetation and varied wildlife of those days was the prime reason. But now deforestation on high scale has denuded the area of wildlife. Nizams stay in Golconda Hyderabad. They used to visit Tandur via Vikarabad which took 15 days to reach tandur. In those days also stone slabs were exported to other parts of India. The unique old houses are living proof of peoples creativity.
Like in those old days the walls is made up of mud walls and slabs with stones to support them wooden was used. Still those houses are available in tandur.
Tandur itself has two parts Old-Tandur and New-Tandur. Old houses area called as old tandur and new localities part called as new tandur. The railway track divides old and new tandur. 

Tandur is a great destination for the business it has got multiple cement factories. It has got stones businesses, yellow lentils(Toor Dall). Tandur provides lot of employment for unskilled and semi-skilled people directly in stone factories. The Quarries/mines provide great source of raw material to small scale industries. There are also Dall processing industries which collect from agricultural raw products from the farmers and filter the dall and supply overall places.

As per the new updates of the districts, Tandur is the headquarter of Tandur Revenue Division. The mandals under tandur revenue division are as follows:
Basheerabad, Bommaraspet, Doulthabad, Kodangal, Peddemul, Tandur, Yalal.

The schools consists of all languages i.e., English, Telugu, urdu and quality education is provided with high quality faculty.
